The modern telecommunication network is a large and complicated system covering small and big territories and consisting of a great number of heterogeneous network elements and cable communication lines thus servicing a great number of users. Normal functioning of such system is impossible without the management system.
All elements of the modern telecommunication networks are program controlled. A possibility of monitoring the network serviceability and remote configuring of nodes is one of the most important features of the modern telecommunication equipment.
The network management system represents the hardware and/or software for network nodes monitoring and control. The software of the network management system consists of the agents localized on the network devices and transmitting the information to the network managing platform.
The method of data exchange between managing applications and agents on the devices is determined by the protocols.
The managing systems are supported in their work by the standardized managing protocols such as:
-
SNMP — one of the first and most simple managing protocols; at the present time the third version of the protocol is popular and supported in a great number of devices;
-
CMIP – the managing protocol recommended by ISO as a basic one has not met wide recognition due to its complexity;
-
TMN – a concept of network management including many managing protocols and introducing the idea of management levels;
-
ANMP – managing protocol for special-purpose networks
